Italian Progressive Rock
Who is behind this site and why does it exist?

me and aldoItalian prog, or ”Italian pop” as the Italians call it is not easy to describe, but I will try my very best and also to be as accurate as I possibly can. I have tried to describe the music in an objective way, but personal taste always interferes. But I am open-minded and as I also appreciate all branches on the Italian prog tree; all the way from the romantic side to the most quirky avant-garde prog, I do feel that I give a decent over all picture.

As a beginner around 1990, I as many others started out listening to the Manticore labels British publications of Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM). The first album I listened to was “The World Became the World”; I got it as a gift from a co-worker who knew I was listening to progressive rock. I liked what I heard; it was beautiful, brutal, a little bit crazy, and so different!

A few years passed by and I was in belief that PFM was the only progressive rock band from Italy, then suddenly a lot of re-releases surfaced and I ordered quite a few, but I never really got hooked. It was not until about ten years later when my brother gave me a copy of “Felona a Serona” by Le Orme that my obsession for Italian prog really started.

Musically this was exactly what I had been looking for all these years, immediately I wanted everything by Le Orme and I quickly bought their entire catalogue. At the same time I also read more about Italian prog on the Internet and found out that there were loads and loads of interesting bands to check out. This was how my big interest for the genre started and I just can’t get enough! Now Iam a collector of italian prog LPs, and allways searching the web, and visiting record fairs to increase my collection. But it aint an easy task considering the often insanelly high prices. Don´t hesitate to contact me if You have any interesting stuffs for sale.

For those of you that not are used listening to music that not is sung in the English language, it might take some time to get used to, but do not give up. Which bands and genres within the genre that you enjoy the most are very personal, but the more you listen the more it will grow on you - for me the music has become my drug!

This website is my tribute to Italian progressive rock and an attempt to spread the interest for this fantastic music. I have made it out of sheer passion for the music and I do not have any intension what so ever to make any money out of it.
There is so many Bands out there, so there was no chance to find all material myself. I have used a lot of cources on the www. If  You find anything that You have written, please send a mail, and I will mention the source.
My english is not always perfect, but I hope you can live with that.

Big thanks to my brother Andréas Polzer, and Philip at Websolution. Without You this site wouldn´t exist.
